FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynne Lindsey and all news should be directed to her at lynnehlindsay@outlook.com

Getting plugged in and charged!

Are you charged up?!  Dan Jordan provided us a great motivational presentation to help us all get plugged in and charged up as we enjoy the summer months.   We hope you can use these positive tips to help Tim McFarlin and his team encourage sponsorship in our golf and tennis tournament which is right around the corner.

This club has so many areas where you can get plugged into, have some fun and help our community.  Hump day at Lola's on Canton Street, our District Celebration at the beach, another Alive in Roswell and "Pint for a Pint" blood drive are just a few of the events on the agenda for August for our great club.

Join us this week as President Elect John Carruth rings the bell and we hear from our new Roswell Fire Chief, Joe Pennino.  I am sure he will add to the charge!

This Week's Speaker
New Roswell Fire Chief to Address Evolution of Firefighting

Roswell Fire Chief Joe Pennino was sworn in on June 14, 2021.  Pennino has been with the Largo Fire Rescue in Florida for over 18 years, where he has served in nearly every capacity, from firefighter to interim fire chief. He has served since 2017 as Largo’s deputy fire chief, where he has overseen the department’s five operational divisions, helped the department improve its response times, conducted an organizational analysis, and served as the city’s incident commander for hurricanes Irma and Eta.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Pennino has a Doctorate in Public Administration from Valdosta State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is a knowledgeable professional in his field, serving as an adjunct instructor at Liberty University, teaching fire service leadership and Public Administration Ethics, Statesmanship and Governance.

Youth & Peace In Action

We need your help in spreading the word about Youth & Peace in Action!

YPA is open to all youth service organizations—like NCL, Boys & Girls Clubs, Boy Scouts, YMCA, church youth groups, home school student organizations. If you have contacts in any of these areas, please see me and let’s include them on the peace train. More information is available at youthpeaceaction.org if you are interested!

Zone 33/34 launched Youth & Peace in Action the largest local peace initiative in Rotary’s history. YPA will provide virtual training to high school students leading to peacebuilder certification, project management training to student leaders and guidance for peace projects chosen by the students using what they learned in the virtual training. We will be providing professional development focused on adding peacebuilding to existing curriculum to teachers in January. All the heavy lifting will be done by NewGen Peacebuilders and Outward Bound Peacebuilders. Rotarians will have the opportunity to take the virtual training and become peacebuilder certified.

District Governor Mary Ligon jumped on the Peace Train and D6900 is leading the way with 27 of the 92 schools registered so far. Roswell Rotary has registered 8 schools and will help start 4 new Interact Clubs this Fall! Thanks to Becky Nelson, Michael Schoppenhorst, Jimmy Moore, Karen Schwank, Debbie Cwalina, Allison Judy, SaraBeth Huntley, Jacque Digesio and Vivian Bankston for stepping up early to help!

There is a special briefing being held this Thursday at 11:00 or 7:00 ET and you are invited to register and participate. Contact Becky Stone at mailto:rebecca.stone@stonepc.netrebecca.stone@stonepc.net for the link.
