LUNCH SETUP UPDATE
President Alex's Message

Dear Roswell Rotary-

This week we have the honor of hosting District Governor André Marria. I hope that we can have a full house to welcome her. She is an amazing woman with great compassion, humor, and vision. Her message will not disappoint and I expect that it will be an energetic meeting.

I want to address our LUNCH SETUP. As I said in my introductory remarks, “It’s a cinch by the inch, it’s hard by the yard.” I believe that we are making progress, and I ask that you stay encouraging to the board and the caterer.

•  One of the setbacks has been that our warmers in the kitchen have been out of commission.

-We have placed a service order and are awaiting repairs.

-We have also purchased a warmer that will arrive prior to our Thursday meeting - this should greatly help to ensure that we have hot chicken.

•  We will have sweet tea, regular iced tea, and water on the tables this week (in the same containers that the water was in last week) as well as in the back (along with coffee and tea).

•  We are addressing increased main courses and side choices.

•   It will be helpful that when you sit, you sit at a table with at least one other person.

-The servers have been instructed not to serve a table until at least two people are seated.

-The servers have also been instructed to serve food from 12 to 12:15.

•  Rolls (and butter) and desserts will be placed on the tables ahead of time as well as salad dressing (which will be in bowls rather than packets) and salt/pepper.

•  We will have ample serving utensils on the table.

Please give family style a chance - a few more weeks - until we can get it to where we believe it should be and befitting our club. As you may have noticed, we are seated and more respectful to our speakers, we are reconnecting with our fellow Rotarians in a more intimate setting, and we have been ending our meetings earlier. The purpose of this elevated experience is, in part, to improve the dining experience for both our members and our guests, as well as to hopefully make our lunch meeting more inclusive feeling in order to attract and keep new members. In short, it is to be beneficial for all concerned.

Thank you for your patience. There are a lot of exciting things ahead for Roswell Rotary!

President Alex

Our District Governor is on Fire for Rotary!
Program Thursday: DG Andre' Marria

So excited about welcoming District Governor to Roswell Rotary this week! We are hoping to have every single table FULL! DG Andre' will be giving an update on her vision, Rotary International's vision, and the District goals for this year.

A little about our DG...

André has been a Rotarian since 2005 when she joined the Rotary Club of Thomasville. She served as Youth Services and Foundation chairs prior to serving as Club President in 2018-19. As President, André received the District 6900 Sheffield Leadership Award. She is a Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society member, Major Donor Level II, Will Watt Fellow, Hue Thomas Fellow, and Jake Cheatham Fellow. André also received the Avenues of Service Citation from the Rotary Club of Thomasville in 2021. She served as an Assistant Governor from 2020-2022. André currently serves as District 6900 Governor Elect and the Chair of the District 6900 Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

2023 Golf & Tennis Tournament Update
Volunteers for 9-11 Rotary Golf & Tennis Tournament

The Aubrey Greenway Golf Tournament and Hagan Cup Tennis Classic planning committees are all underway and working hard to make this year's event one of our best! With the 9-11 tournament date, the tournament will focus on honoring Roswell first responders.  They are the people who are there for our community whenever tragedy strikes. What better way to honor them on this sacred day and to show our mission of service above self.  Make sure you jump in  to give your time and talent as a volunteer for our largest fundraiser of the year!

Michael Curling is heading up the volunteer committee and has the sign up genius link ready for you to grab your volunteer spot and become a part of this fundraising effort. Roswell Rotarians do not disappoint and we cannot wait to see this whole club pulling together to make this tournament truly historic!

Great Speaker + Two New Members!
After Hours Meeting Recap

Roswell Rotary After Hours had a spectacular first meeting of the Rotary year last week! It was a patriotic evening as the club welcomed guest speaker Colonel Richard H. White who serves as Director & Chairman of the Board for the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame (GMVHOF). He spoke on his organization and how inductees are chosen for inclusion based on valor, achievement and service. Members were blown away by the stories he told and his passion for Veterans.

Additionally, RRC President Alex and RRAH Chair Brooke officially welcomed two new members to the Rotary family. Welcome, Lauren Darby and Thomas Orr!

Blood Drive: Make It Personal for Henry

The photo above is my grandson Jonathan “Henry”. Henry is in italics because it’s his middle name and that’s what we call him. He is now 15 months old.

Henry was born with a Familia problem. He carries a low platelet count. He will carry 90,000 to 95,000 platelets at any given time. Normally people will carry 150,000 to 450,000. I personally carry 250,000 while my daughters, Kristine, (Henry’s mother), Vivian and Henry’s maternal grandmother only carry 50,000 to 70,000 as did his great grandfather.

I tell you all of this because we have our next Rotary Blood Drive coming very soon and I am reaching out to you to ask that you donate so that people very important to me can have something available to them, if they should ever need it. You see, this is personal to me. What I ask you to do is look at your own family, friends and even just acquaintances and find the reasons that exist that make giving a pint of blood personal to you. You just never know when that pint you give might just save someone very close to you. So please, make it personal to you. For the person who receives it, I guarantee, it’s personal to them and you will be a blessing.
