Social Opportunity
Join Us for Virtual Thirsty Thursday This Week (and Every Week Through April)!

Continuing the very new tradition of being together and distant at the same time - we will have our second virtual Thirsty Thursday tomorrow evening - April 2 - brought to us by Zoom! Last week we had about 20 people join in - we hope we'll have just as many or more this week. So, BYOB and join us online between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm for an opportunity to chat.

All you need is your computer, a camera (many are built right into the computer) and your microphone on to join this event. just go straight to https://zoom.us/j/700537258 to join the fun! Or, if you have the Zoom app on your phone or computer already, you can click Join Meeting Now and type in the meeting ID - 700 537 258

We plan to host an online Thirsty Thursday every week until we're back together. And we're looking at hosting some Friday morning club meetings or "Coffee and Conversation" sessions starting the middle of the month.

Hope to SEE you Thursday.

Tell Us How You Are Doing!

Today is National "I Care About You Day" - fitting as we all shelter in. While we all stay home to beat back the coronavirus, we still want to stay connected. We want to celebrate with you and help out if you have a need during this time, or you see a need in the community. Reach out to President Cathie or to me.

  • By way of celebration, we want to congratulate Past President Jennie and Dennis Springer - celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Jennie and Dennis were married 60 years ago in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
  • And, keep Jessie Legros and former members Marj and Don Griffing in your thoughts and prayers - Jessie's father and Marj's mother are both fighting pneumonia.

Serving During the Pandemic
Malachi's Storehouse Puts Our Money to Work

As we reported last week, the club has taken action to support efforts to distribute food to those in need, especially school- aged children and their families who are not able to reach the distribution points set up by DeKalb County. A check for $1,500 was given to Malachi’s Storehouse at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church on North Peachtree Road to help cover the cost of food they need to keep the storehouse stocked.

District Conference 2020
Jekyll Island Conference Cancelled

You should have received this communication from District Governor Jim Squire on Monday...

Good morning District 6900 Rotarians. I hope all of you are well and finding innovative ways of enjoying time with your families and communicating with your fellow Rotarians. I have enjoyed seeing so many ways that club Presidents are reaching out on a regular basis to club members, and how many clubs are having virtual meetings and Family of Rotary virtual events.

I think I have always been a kind of glass half full guy, and I am optimistic that each new day will bring good news that the Coronavirus has flattened in new cases or even turned downward. That will certainly happen one day, hopefully soon, but probably not in time to hold the successful District Conference that we were all excited about 30 days from now.

I am therefore cancelling the District Conference as planned, and scheduling a District Celebration Saturday, June 13th, at the Bibb Mill Event Facility in Columbus, GA on the banks of the beautiful Chattahoochee River. Taking a page from the District Conference we will be celebrating at Jimmy’s Fish Camp with a Happy Hour from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM followed by a Lunch and Awards Presentations. Stay tuned for more information on the event and how to register.

For those who have registered for the District Conference your registration fee will be automatically refunded to your credit card within the next 10 days. You do not have to send a request for your refund. Likewise, if you made a hotel reservation with the information provided on the District website your reservation will automatically be cancelled. If you made your reservation outside the District reservation blocks directly with the hotel or central reservations you will have to personally cancel your reservation. Please let me or District Conference Chairman PDG Blake McBurney, dgblakemcb1314@gmail.com, know if you have any questions.

Stay safe and stay well.
