No meeting on Friday 04/27/18

Because this week is the District 6900 Conference (i.e. 2018 Rotacon), which is being held in Sandestin, FL, the Club will not have our regular weekly meeting. There are currently 26 people associated with our Club who have registered to attend the Conference.

For those who are attending, there will be lots of time to socialize and enjoy the beaches, while still attending great sessions. The attendees from the Rotary Club of Dunwoody will gather for the evening meal on both Thursday and Saturday evenings.

An email later this week will be sent to those persons from our Club that have registered for 2018 Rotacon. If you want to register there is still time. Accommodations are tight but the most recent word was that there still are accommodations available for the Conference.

New meeting venue for FY 2019

The Board has approved 3 possible venues for consideration by the membership. The Club has scheduled meetings at each of those three locations during the month of May. The dates and venues are:

May 4th, Embassy Suites located at 130 Crowne Pointe Parkway,

Dunwoody, GA 30338

May 11th, Dunwoody Country Club at 1600 Dunwoody Club Drive,

Sandy Springs, GA 30350

May 18th, Dunwoody United Methodist Church at 1548 Mt. Vernon Road,

Dunwoody, GA 30338

On May 19th/20th each member will be sent an email asking you to indicate by reply email which of the venues you feel are adequate. You may think they are all adequate, or you may think that only 1 or 2 are adequate. The poll will tell the Board the sentiment of the Membership.

The plan is to have an article each week in the Bulletin, talking about the coming Friday's venue, but I would encourage each of you to attend all of the May meetings, so that you can have an informed opinion about the adequacy of each of the venues.

The Board also feels that you should know the following information, when considering the adequacy of each venue.

Location

Estimated annual

cost of Friday Meeting

Dunwoody Country Club

$47,920

Dunwoody United Methodist Church

$34,020

Embassy Suites

$58,320

Westin

$72,900

End Polio Nowcampaign gaining momentum...

To date, the campaign has generated $24,285 in donations, with 44% of the Club having contributed something. That is a big jump from last week's 33%. Let's keep the momentum going. If you haven't contributed yet, please use this link to make a credit card donation for whatever amount you are comfortable making.

https://dunwoodyrotary.org/v2/contribution/contrib...

Remember any donation of $100 or more, will be matched $1 for $1. If you donate $120 your RI record of giving will increase by $240.

Small Group Discussion Report

Every member of the Club should have received their electronic copy on Wednesday (04/18/18). If you didn't, please contact Jackie Cuthbert cuthbert@mindspring.com so that she can send you a second electronic copy. Be sure to tell her the correct email address to which the report should be sent.

This report will be used extensively in preparing a new 5 year Strategic plan for our Club. A committee of members (composed of representatives from each of 5 cohorts) will make their recommendations to the Club by mid to late May. The cohorts are based on years in the Rotary Club.

Less than 5 years

Between 5 and 10 years

Between 10 and 20 years

Between 20 and 25 years

Longer than 25 years

Awards and Installation event

The End of year event will be split into two separate sessions this year (on a one time basis), due to the lateness of the RI convention (June 21st thru 27th), the scheduling of the District 6900 awards ceremony on Saturday evening(06/30/18) in Macon Georgia, and the likelihood of people having left for 4th of July weekend by Sunday (07/01/18).

Thursday evening (June 14th) We will gather as a Club for a cocktail party starting at 6:30 PM and ending by 8 PM. There will be no Friday morning meeting on the 15th. The event will allow members and life partners to socialize with other Club members. At the same time there will be High Tables around which people can gather to learn about specific service opportunities during FY 2019. In the closing 15 minutes we will recognize Rotary Foundation Donors and make the following awards: Rotarian of the year, Rookie of the Year, David Baker Award, and the Bill Mulkey Greater Giving Award.

Friday morning meeting (June 29th) This will be a normal morning meeting (7AM to 8:30 AM) at which we will review the highlights of FY 2018, have the installation of the new Board and Officers, and listen to some remarks by incoming President Rick Woods.

PDG Bill Mulkey's yard is "spruced"

"Ranger" Fred Bounds lead his merry band of Sprucers to Bill Mulkey's s house this past Saturday morning. They managed to "surprise" Bill who did not know ahead of time that the crew was planning a surprise appearance. The crew proceeded to trim hedges, pot soil, rake open areas, smooth the mulch, trimmed tree branches, and air blew both the roof and the gutters.

The clean up crew was composed of these nature loving Rotarians:

Fred Bounds

Kathy Brandt

Ann Glenn

Gary Lane

Rick Otness

Warren Turner

Rick Woods

Lang Woody

There are limited number of spaces available if you enjoy gardening. Contact "Ranger" Fred atfbounds@gsu.edu for additional details.
