This Week's Meeting
Club Assembly

Join us at Fleming's on Friday for our final club assembly of this Rotary Year. President Rick will lead the discussion and focus on three things: the budget, membership and fund raising. Each of these will take about 10 minutes which leaves ample time for comments. If any member has a particular topic that they'd like to discuss please email President Rick (sdoowrm@gmail.com) and let him know the subject. Please attend as this is an important meeting.

Rotaract Club of Atlanta Urban Tree Cidery Tour, Mixer with Dunwoody Rotary Club Tomorrow Night

The Rotaract Club of Atlanta invites you to join in its last Rotary meeting of the year this Thursday, June 20. Rotaractors will be meeting at the Urban Tree Cidery at 1465 Howell Mill Road NW, Atlanta, from 7-9 pm - and the event includes a tour of the cidery. Rotaract hopes to have a few representatives from our Rotary Club join us as well for maximum networking. Come and have a great time networking!

Bob Freeman has donated Cidery vouchers for the Rotaractors. This is a great complement to last week's presentation as it will allow members of both clubs to interact with each other. RSVP is encouraged but not necessary. You can signup at the meetup.com event.

The Dunwoody Nature Center is Calling ... Sign Up Now for the Dunwoody Rotary End of Year Celebration

Don't wait any longer to RSVP for the Dunwoody Rotary social event at 6:00 pm on Thursday June 27 in the Pavilion at the Dunwoody Nature Center. Help us to celebrate the 2018-19 Rotary year and welcome in Cathie Brumfield as our 2019-20 President! You can:

  • Enjoy delicious food representing a variety of cuisines - all from Please Chef - along with tasty beverages of all kinds
  • Take part in sharing wonderful memories, amusing stories and well deserved awards
  • Raise another glass to the Rotary Club of Dunwoody and our 35-year history of making a difference
  • Cheer on the new officers and directors we'll install for the next Rotary year.

We hope that you and your guest will join us. We will have appetizers and each attendee will receive a coupon good for one drink. To ensure that we are resourced properly, I ask that you please acknowledge your attendance (and a guest if you wish) by registering for the event. Use the link https://dunwoodyrotary.org/v2/event/4025 and click on the REGISTER button.

This will be the final meeting of the Rotary year and should be a fun way to carry on the momentum gained throughout the year. I sincerely hope you can attend.

Calling All Bakers - Start Baking to Support Our July 4 Hotdog Booth and Bake Sale

In keeping with our 20+ year tradition, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody will have a hot dog booth at Dunwoody's annual Fourth of July Celebration. And, as in most recent years, with your help we plan to sell baked goods - cookies, brownies, any finger food dessert that can be packaged in a sandwich size or snack size Ziploc bag and sold for $1.00.

Les Woulfin is baking; so is our GRSP student Mathilde Illum. You can bring your creations to our hot dog stand in Dunwoody Village on the morning of July 4 (we'd like to have them no later than 9:00 a.m. so we can have them onn display andready for sale when the parade comes into the Village. Or, we'll determine a drop off place before the 4th and let you know!

Any money we make on hot dogs and baked goods will be added to the money we have to fund our good work in the community!

Not a baker? There are plenty of opportunities to help … from assembling the float to walking in the parade to working in the hot dog stand - all take place the morning of July 4 and leave the entire afternoon free to enjoy the holiday..

Parade with Us on July 4

Our new members - with support from Past Presidents Jennie Stipick and Jackie Cuthbert - have revived our long-time Dunwoody tradition of marching in the Dunwoody Fourth of July parade. We have a fabulous float planned and trinkets to pass out along the parade route … and we'd love to have more Dunwoody Rotarians, partners, kids and grandkids to join us in spreading the word that the Rotary Club of Dunwoody has been Connecting the World for 35 years!

There are also opportunities to work in our Hot Dog Stand … another great Dunwoody tradition!

Contact Jennie Stipick if you want to take to the parade route - or Kobelah Bennah to help with the hot dog stand. (See the article that follows about baked goods too.)

Did You Know Ardy Has Been Married 111 Years?

Did you know that Ardy and Lydie Bastien have been married since 1896 - we probably should congratulate him on 111 years of marriage. What?

Actually, it appears our personal records are a bit out of synch with reality. Please check your birthday and anniversary on dunwoodyrotary.org (you need to be logged into the website to do this) and make needed changes. Once you log in, you can click your name at the top of the blue bar to get to your information, then click Update just below the blue bar on the right, make changes, and scroll to the bottom and click the Save button.

Let me know if you need any assistance!

Help Keep the Tradition of Great Speakers Going!

Over time, our weekly speakers have offered us inspiration, new perspectives and a wealth of information. We'd like that tradition to continue. That's why our speaker committee is off and running for the 2019/20 Rotary year – with some great speakers already lined up for July and August. Mark your calendar and invite your friends to hear:

  • July 12: Pat Graham, Rare Books
  • July 19: Cary King, 1968 Vietnam Tet Offensive
  • July 26: Caesar Gaiters, DeKalb Rotary Council Chair re: Rotary and Entrepreneurship
  • August 2: Tony Barnhart, 2019 College Football
  • August 9: Todd Galanti, GM, Costco Perimeter
  • August 16: Rodney Mims Cook, The National Monuments Foundation
  • August 23: Larry Schall, President, Oglethorpe University

Kathy Brandt and the committee welcome your ideas and help finding speakers. If you can think of someone with an interesting story to tell, please let Kathy know at kgbrandt1@comcast.net.
