Join Us Tonight
RCD Sponsors Informational Session Re: Stopping Human Trafficking

Join us tonight - Wednesday, October 23 - for the RCD-sponsored free, informative event addressing the issue of human trafficking. The event begins at 6:30 P.M. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia, and includes:

  • A private showing of the movie “8 Days” - telling the story of one 16-year girl’s life in trafficking and how her family and community got her back
  • A candid discussion with federal, state, and local law enforcement. We would like to have as many club members as possible attend this special event.

The purpose of the program is to build public awareness of sex trafficking in our communities and learn about local resources. It's not too late to share this with your neighbor, family and friends.

Thanks to Charlie Augello for leading this initiative - and to his committee that includes Griff Ransom, Louise Barden, Tina Philpott, Anne Glenn, Kathy Brandt and Erica Brown. Thanks to their efforts, we also have a host of sponsors who have allowed us to make this a free event - including presenting sponsor Crowne Plaza Hotel Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia and premier sponsors Dunwoody Crier, The UPS Store, Jett FerryRoad@The Williamsburg Shopping Center, and Anderson Parking. for making this important program available in our community. Thanks also to- the Dunwoody Police Department and Street Grace for their participation.

Complimentary on-site self-parking is available for this event.

This Week's Speaker

This Week's Meeting
Arrive a Little Early

This Friday's meeting will be held in the room where we normally get our breakfast … and breakfast will be served from the bar. Another group is coming in a little after 8:30, so President Cathie has asked that you arrive a little earlier, so we can be finished before the other group arrives. Thanks!

Goodby Polio; Thanks Rotary!
World Polio Day - October 24

This week marks World Polio Day - a great time to mark our progress and commitment to eradicating polio. On World Polio Day, thousands of Rotary clubs around the world will hold events and fundraisers to recognize our progress in the global fight to end polio. District 6900 is holding a special event tomorrow at the CDC. Rotary International will stream an update on Facebook in multiple time zones and languages around the world - highlighting the heroes of polio eradication, with stories from polio-endemic and recently impacted areas. Following its premiere, the program video will be available indefinitely on Rotary International and our website: endpol.io/wpd.

Rotary has contributed more than $1.9 billion to ending polio since 1985, including more than $180,000 from the Rotary Club of Dunwoody.

When Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative more than three decades ago, polio paralyzed 1,000 children every day. We’ve made great progress against the disease since then. Polio cases have dropped by 99.9 percent, from 350,000 cases in 1988 in 125 countries to 33 cases of wild poliovirus in 2018 in just two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. And we remain committed to the end.

With polio nearly eradicated, Rotary and its partners must sustain this progress and continue to reach every child with the polio vaccine. Without full funding and political commitment, this paralyzing disease could return to polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk. Rotary has committed to raising US$50 million each year to support global polio eradication efforts. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged to match that 2-to-1, for a total yearly contribution of $150 million.
