From Anita Augello ...
It is with a full heart that I send this letter. For several years now I have told you about a tradition that I started with our daughter Claudia in Kingsley Elementary School. I asked for support knowing full well that this was not a school your children would be assigned to, but I did so because this school is in your back yard and has many families with financial difficulties and hungry children. I also did so because I know Rotary has a heart.
Well, once again, your response was overwhelming, and Claudia and I can’t thank you enough for making our 5th Kingsley Harvest Basket program such a tremendous success. We ordered 80 turkeys from the Dunwoody Lidl store and they gave us a very generous price on 14 to 19 lb Butterball turkeys. We also had help with pricing on canned goods and some boxed items from the Orchard Park Kroger. We also had an abundance of help from E. 48th Street Market and generous donations of money and food items from neighbors in Deerfield, Brooke Farm and Kingsley Communities.
Each box was filled with sustainable items such as oatmeal, applesauce, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, turkey stuffing, gravy mix, potato flakes, rice, cake mixes, soups, pasta, yams, jelly and several other miscellaneous items that neighbors felt should be included. The boxes were so heavy that we had to put the turkey in a separate bag. With the help of students, Ms Lubin, the Kingsley art teacher, decorated each box and, made several cards. Each box also included a beautiful Thanksgiving card printed in Spanish dialect and English and donated by my Harry Norman Dunwoody Office.
We helped distribute boxes on Thursday, November 18th and 19th. Claudia and I were thanked profusely and both of us were left teary-eyed often as they kept expressing their appreciation. We were “God Blessed” all day long! With all that we distributed we, thankfully, had enough canned goods to fill 11 more boxes and those were given away to families who we found out about during the day from various sources.
So, once again, dear Rotarians, Claudia and I say thank you a hundred-fold. We hope you all feel good just knowing that you helped more than 80 plus families enjoy Thanksgiving with many days to follow.
