Join us this Friday at the Embassy Suites to welcome our own Rotarian Denise Brodksy, Executive Director of Clubhouse Atlanta. This non-profit organization's mission is to provide an inviting place for adults living with a mental illness - an experience that gives them respect, dignity and courage to reach their potential as valued and contributing members of their community. Clubhouse Atlanta’s model is based on a set of Clubhouse International’s evidence-based standards embraced by over 340 Clubhouses worldwide.
Denise has served in the non-profit sector in various roles for most
of her professional career. As an advocate for public education, from 2000 to
2005, Denise served as one of seven School Board Trustees for the Clark County
School District in Las Vegas, NV; the third largest school district in the
country with over 300,000 students. During her tenue with the Clark County
School District, Denise served on both the National School Board Association
and Council of Urban Boards of Education. During that time, Denise also became the
Executive Director for The Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition whose mission
was to ban tobacco in public places statewide by advocating for local control.
It was through her work and advocacy for public education that led
her to the deep south where she became the executive director for the United
Way of St. Charles Parish, LA, a predominately Cajun community outside of New
Orleans that sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. Denise moved to New
Orleans on August 17, 2005, only to evacuate from her new home on the heels of
Hurricane Katrina, the storm of the century that ravaged the region on August
29, 2005. Determined to return to her newly assigned position, Denise made her
way back to New Orleans by way of Dallas, TX to begin recovery and rebuilding
efforts. During her role as executive director, Denise also became an active
member of the Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish and was recognized as a Paul
Harris Fellow. Later that year, Denise met Chuck Miller and moved to Greater
Cincinnati in 2008.
In 2019, Denise and her husband
moved to Hutchinson, KS from Greater Cincinnati. While Denise was new to Kansas,
she jumped in with both feet and accepted the position as the new Area Manager
for Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Reno County. She became actively involved in the non-profit and business community through the Reno County Economic Recovery Taskforce during the
early days of the pandemic, and the Rise Up Reno Coalition, an organization dedicated to preventing substance
abuse amongst our youth. Denise also served on the Reno Recovery Education
Group, an initiative facilitated by the United Way of Reno County and the Reno
County Health Department to address the opioid and fentanyl crisis.
Denise is committed to improving the lives of our community and is proud to now call Georgia her home! She accepted the position of Executive Director with Clubhouse Atlanta in October 2022. Denise is married and has three grown adult children who have given her five grandchildren. She and her husband have two fur babies and enjoy going to classic car shows in their 57 convertible Chevy Belair! She loves gardening, spending time with family and watching her grandchildren grow.
