Dunwoody Honors Allison Simms as Teacher of the Year

At this year's DeKalb Rotary Council breakfast, our club is honoring Allison Mimms, a fourth-grade math and science teacher at Dunwoody Elementary School (DES). She has been teaching for 15 years, and this is her eighth year at DES, where she has coordinated our Character Education visits with the fourth-grade classes.

Allison graduated from the University of West Georgia in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and again in 2016 with a master's degree in Instructional Technology (Go Wolves!). She is currently slated to graduate this May with her Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University (Go Owls!). I wear many hats at DES, and I am proud to serve as a leader at a school with such amazing educators. She is the fourth Grade Chair, 3rd-5th Grade Math Teacher Leader, and the DES Digital Learning Team Liaison.

Allison says, "Teaching has been a passion of mine since a very young age. I consider myself a life-long learner, and I am always looking for new and innovative ways to improve my craft. I truly believe it takes a village to raise a child and I am blessed to be able to work alongside my fellow colleagues, administrators, parents, and the community to impact the lives of all students. Teaching is what I love, and I am thankful to be able to inspire and lead my students to success!"

Congratulations to Allison Mimms and thank you for all you do for our children!
