40 volunteers, 25 minutes and 500 pounds of dog food. Buckhead Rotary headed on the road to the Fulton County Animal Shelter for their Monday lunch and a short volunteer activity where we helped break up 40-pound bags of dog food into smaller bags to be distributed to foster families. This was a huge need and with the number of Buckhead Rotarian volunteers, we were able to accomplish what would have taken the staff two weeks to do. It was a fun time filling bags and building fellowship. This was followed by lunch and blue and yellow Rotary themed cupcakes to celebrate our accomplishments. We also donated canned pumpkin to be used for cat and dog lick mats to help relieve boredom and stress for the shelter animals.
“The food bagging your group accomplished today will truly make a difference and save the Pets for Life team a tremendous amount of time.” Audrey Shoemaker, Director Fulton County Shelter
Additionally, Buckhead Rotarians were featured prominently in the June 3rd Northside Neighbor Article, “Fulton County Animal Shelter Over Capacity." The article detailed the Pets for Life program, and how this outreach program provides much needed supplies to keep pets with their people and prevent them from being “surrendered” at area shelters. This article highlighted the benefit of the Buckhead Rotary program we created, our Pawsitivity Partnership with LifeLine and Open Hand, where we deliver pet food to those in need on the third Saturday of every month filling this growing community need!
